Chapter 9: Inquiring About Identity
Chapter Nine: Inquiring About Identity
Almost simultaneously.
"Ssss…"
The blood-sweating steed let out a shrill neigh, as if startled, its front hooves rearing high into the air as the entire horse rose up on its haunches, lurching up and down without cease.
Splash, splash, splash.
Everyone was startled. What was wrong with the horse?
Xiao Tianyou was nearly flung off and felt completely baffled—it had been raised for three years and was long since tamed.
He gripped the reins tight with both hands, lashing out with his riding crop, and snapped in agitation: "Quiet down, stop it — I've still got a race to run, stop it!"
The harder he whipped it, the more violently the Akhal-Teke stallion bucked.
Ye Fusheng's lips curved into a faint smile. Back when he was training under his master, he had ridden tigers and black bears through the mountains — riding a horse was child's play. He snapped his fingers again.
The Ferghana horse heard the sound and reared up with even greater force, all four hooves leaving the ground — just twice.
Bang!
Xiao Tianyou was thrown from his horse and crashed hard to the ground, grimacing in pain.
"Young Master Xiao!"
"Brother Tianyou!"
Everyone moved forward with concern, but before they could reach his side, an even more shocking sight unfolded before them — the Sweat-Blood Horse walked up to where Xiao Tianyou lay, bent both knees, and settled itself upon him.
It has always been people who ride horses!
Before his eyes — a horse was riding a man!
Huangfu Qing was the quickest to react. She spun around, face filled with shock, only to find no trace of Ye Fusheng anywhere.
"Get lost, move away!" Xiao Tianyou flew into a rage, never having imagined things would come to this. He tried to shove the blood-sweating steed aside, but the horse weighed over two thousand jin—he simply couldn't budge it.
[He] roared, "Come back — the match hasn't even started yet, come back!"
"You lost!"
Huangfu Qing gritted her teeth, her voice a tangle of emotions: "He can control your horse. There's no point in continuing the race—because the moment you proposed it, you had already lost."
"I……" Xiao Tianci was so furious he was on the verge of exploding.
……
Ye Fusheng walked out of the Tianhai Racecourse and saw someone approaching head-on.
"Why won't this girl leave me alone?"
The person walking toward him was none other than He Yuting. He began to wonder if someone had cursed him, and prepared to slip away from the other side as though he hadn't noticed her.
"Stop!"
He Yuting spoke with a flushed face — after she left yesterday, CEO Wang had put forward a condition: as long as she could introduce Ye Fusheng to him, he would enter into a partnership with the He family!
Remembering that he had a marriage pact with Huangfu Qing, he had followed her all the way here — and sure enough, found her.
Ye Fusheng stopped in his tracks, his tone displeased: "I was inside the gate and you were outside it—are you really saying I followed *you* to the stables?"
First, cut her off before she could say another word.
He Yuting steeled herself and said: "I'm the one who came to find you this time. There's something I need your help with.
"No time!"
Ye Fusheng refused outright.
"You……" He Yuting felt deeply unsettled. Now that he had won Huangfu Qing over, there was no more need to fawn over her. She pulled out a bank card and said irritably, "Don't worry, I won't ask for your help for nothing. Even if you've bewitched Huangfu Qing for now, one day she'll wake up and still kick you to the curb—you'd better think ahead!"
"There's two hundred thousand here — take the money and come with me!"
Ye Fusheng was so furious he laughed. Why did everyone here love throwing money at people, as if they were all so fabulously wealthy?
Then tossed the card Xiao Tianyou had just given over: "There's two million in here. Take the money and stay away from me — let's never see each other again for the rest of our lives."
He Yuting's entire body went rigid at the figure. Two million?
Right after, she was so furious she nearly exploded. Big deal — all you did was trick the richest man's daughter. Drop the act!
But thinking of how she had just taken over the company, Director Wang's order was far too important to jeopardize — she had no choice but to swallow her frustration and endure.
She forced a smile that looked worse than crying: "Ye Fusheng, they say even one night as husband and wife is worth a hundred nights of grace. We once had a marriage pact — that counts for something between us. I'm begging you, all right?"
Ye Fusheng furrowed his brows and instinctively assessed her complexion. She wasn't terminally ill—just a bit of irregular menstruation. How could there be nothing to be done?
Seeing him hesitate, He Yuting pressed her advantage: "Ye Fusheng, I'm begging you—just meet with President Wang."
With that, she put on a pitiful, helpless expression.
So it was to see someone...
Ye Fusheng had always responded to gentleness rather than force: "Just this once. After this, don't see each other again."
"Alright, my car is over here!"
He Yuting was overjoyed, quickly stepping aside to open the Maserati's door like a chauffeur.
The two had just gotten into the car and left.
Huangfu Qing chased out from the riding grounds, only to realize she had never managed to identify the person — but by the time she stepped outside, all she caught was a vague, retreating silhouette.
Just as she was thinking about this, her phone rang.
Picking up the phone, she said, "Dad."
"Well, did you get a clear answer?" Huangfu Hai's urgent voice came from the other end of the line.
Huangfu Qing thought for a moment, then reasoned, "Probably nobody important—turning back for two million…"
She recounted the whole story once more.
West Suburb Manor.
"I thought he had such an impressive background — yet he'd come crawling back to compete for two million. Turns out yesterday he was just looking down on me for not offering enough. Heh."
Jin Lanzhi let out a string of cold sneers: "If I'm not mistaken, he probably met Dragon King Xu in prison, or saved Dragon King Xu at some point—it's not like he's anything impressive on his own!"
Had been counting on him to clinch tonight's deal with the Gu family — that's gone up in smoke now. She'd have to manage it on her own.
Saving someone is merely a favor, and every favor has a day when the debt is repaid in full — not worth attaching any importance to.
Someone whose own abilities are on a completely different level — someone capable of making Dragon King Xu bow in submission — might actually know Miss Gu!
Huangfu Hai gave a satisfied nod. "I thought this lowlife actually had some standing. Turns out he's nothing but greedy. Don't let me see him again."
"Prepare for tonight's banquet!"
