Chapter 5: The Dragon King Xu Has Arrived

They recognized the old man — it was Fu Bo, the steward of Huangfu Hai, the wealthiest man around!

Boss Wang in particular had visited Huangfu Hai on several occasions, yet never once managed to see the man himself—it was always Uncle Fu who received him!

Manager Wang quickly stepped forward: "Uncle Fu, what brings you here?"

"Old Fu!"

"Good day, Uncle Fu."

The others chimed in with fawning cries.

Butler Fu didn't spare them so much as a glance, walking straight past them to stand before Ye Fusheng, and bowed respectfully. "Mr. Ye, I'm sorry you were alarmed. Leave what happens here to me."

As he spoke, he turned a ferocious glare on He Yuting: "You dare threaten an honored guest of Mr. Huangfu? You're courting death!"

BOOM!

He Yuting felt as though a bolt of lightning had struck from a clear sky, frightened into absolute stillness.

Manager Wang and the others were left dumbfounded. He wasn't a fugitive? He was Huangfu Hai's honored guest?

Uncle Fu continued: "Kneel and apologize to Mr. Ye at once, or I will make you regret it for the rest of your life!"

He Yuting's face went deathly pale, drained of all color. The He family carried some name in Tianhai, but they were second-tier at best — nowhere near Huangfu Hai's level. Never mind Huangfu Hai himself; Uncle Fu alone could wipe the He family out without breaking a sweat.

"I…" He Yuting said, her knees already bending as she moved to kneel.

"Forget it!"

Ye Fusheng spoke up in time — for one, he had no habit of humiliating women; for another, they had once been betrothed, and on that account he saw fit to give her one chance.

He looked at Fu Bo and asked, "What do you want with me?"

Fu Bo quickly gave a slight bow: "Mr. Huangfu sincerely requests your return."

Ye Fusheng thought it over — since he couldn't leave today anyway, he might as well take a look. "Let's go."

The two walked out, leaving the restaurant in dead silence.

……

West Suburb Manor.

"Qingqing, this is Ye Fusheng — he's the one who brought you back from the brink, and what's more, he's your fiancé!" Huangfu Hai made the introduction with a glowing face, having just finished recounting the whole story from beginning to end.

His thoughts drifted once more to his father's words: *This young man possesses the talent to anchor heaven and earth—he could secure the Huangfu family's prosperity for a hundred years.* He had not believed it before, but now, watching Ye Fusheng save his daughter with such effortless ease, he was utterly convinced in his heart: this was the son-in-law he would accept.

"He is not!"

Huangfu Qing spoke in a low, firm voice: "Dad, I've said it before—I will never marry in this lifetime. Stop pushing me!"

"Don't get worked up — I'm not marrying her either!"

Ye Fusheng was left at a complete loss, unable to wrap his head around why girls were all like this — each one convinced she was some prized delicacy that everyone was just itching to take a bite of.

Asked Huangfu Hai, "What do you want with me?"

"Uh……"

Huangfu Hai was left utterly speechless. His daughter had always been cold and aloof by nature—that was simply how she spoke. But why had Ye Fusheng adopted the same attitude? There wasn't even a shred of respect for elders or proper hierarchy between them.

Jin Lanzhi, seeing her husband's embarrassment, stepped in with a timely smile: "Little Ye, does something have to be wrong before you can be invited over? You and Qingqing are betrothed — we're all family."

"By the way, how did you come alone? Where are your parents?"

Ye Fusheng had always lived by the principle of returning respect tenfold for every measure he received. Seeing that Jin Lanzhi's manner was quite agreeable, his tone softened somewhat: "I have no father or mother. I was raised by my master from a young age. My master has been away on a long journey for three years now and has yet to return, so I came on my own."

Jin Lanzhi frowned slightly. An orphan? She had assumed he came from a prominent family.

Then, still smiling, [he/she] said: "So how have you spent these past three years? Why didn't you come three years ago?"

At the mention of this, Ye Fusheng was also furious, and answered honestly: "Master told me to wait for him in prison."

Squawk!

Jin Lanzhi was dumbfounded.

Huangfu Hai was dumbstruck.

Even Huangfu Qing, who hadn't so much as spared Ye Fusheng a proper glance, was left utterly dumbfounded.

Prison?

Jin Lanzhi's expression turned cold in an instant. What decent person ever came out of prison? And he dares to think about marrying my daughter—who does he think he is?

His attitude shifted abruptly: "Qingqing, this past year while you were sick, Xiao Tianyou came by often to keep you company. You'd better treat him well from now on!"

Huangfu Qing nodded and said offhandedly, "I'm tired!"

He turned and went straight upstairs.

Jin Lanzhi turned to Huangfu Hai and said, "Husband, I've heard that Miss Gu of the Gu family from Dijing will be coming to Tianhai to invest soon. You should do your best to prepare and secure a partnership with the Gu family. Go to the study and get ready."

Huangfu Hai knew exactly what his wife meant — she wanted to play the villain and drive Ye Fusheng away. He had assumed Ye Fusheng came from a distinguished background, but who could have known the man was an orphan who had even served time in prison? Naturally, he could never agree to this, and he rose and left.

As for Father's words — I'm afraid he's gone senile in his old age!

Ye Fusheng noticed the change in Jin Lanzhi, yet what shook him far more deeply was — what a coincidence?

She ventured a probing question: "Aunt Jin, is the young lady of the Gu family in Dijing named Gu Ziqi?"

Jin Lanzhi seemed like a different person, her face filled with nothing but deep contempt and disdain: "Yes, but that's none of your concern. And don't call me Auntie — we're not that close!"

Ye Fusheng frowned. Women, regardless of age, were all fickle.

Slap!

Jin Lanzhi pulled out a bank card and slapped it onto the coffee table. "There's one million in here. Take the money and leave immediately. From this day forward, you have no ties whatsoever to our Huangfu family — and don't you dare breathe a word to anyone about your engagement to Qingqing. Understood?"

This is *my* home — not the kind of place a two-bit nobody like you could ever dream of reaching.

Anger surged in Ye Fusheng's heart, but his master's words came back to him: *Compete with your peers for supremacy; never stoop to argue with a fool over who's right.*

Calmly, he said: "It's none of my business whether I have anything to do with you or not. And one more thing — being poor is not your fault. Being poor yet having no awareness of it, *that* is your fault. Take this million. Consider it a gift from me."

Rose and walked outside.

A few steps out, a dull thunderclap rumbled overhead, and the world outside erupted into a torrential downpour.

Jin Lanzhi trembled with fury from head to toe — she was the wife of the wealthiest man in Tianhai City, and someone had actually dared to call her poor?

[He/She] snapped furiously: "You have ten minutes to call a car. Ten minutes, and you'd better be out of my house!"

Ye Fusheng couldn't be bothered to respond. He took out his phone and called Xu Sandao, telling him to come pick him up.

Jin Lanzhi saw that he could still reach someone to come pick him up, and sneered: "You've barely set foot in Tianhai and you already have friends here — someone you met in prison, I suppose? You don't even bat an eye at a million yuan, so the people you know must be pretty high up the food chain, heh."

Three years behind bars puts you at petty thief level at best — your friends can't be much better.

The words had barely fallen.

Butler Fu Bo walked in and announced, "Sir, Madam, Dragon King Xu has arrived!"
