Chapter 10 Cornered
Chapter Ten: Cornered
On the other side.
Ye Fusheng met Mr. Wang at the teahouse.
Manager Wang was exceedingly deferential—bowing at the waist, both hands raised in a welcoming smile. Barely a word had been exchanged before he produced a contract for He Yuting to sign, and not just any agreement: an exclusive supply contract.
The contract was signed.
Director Wang asked carefully, "Mr. Ye, tonight the young lady of the Gu family — she's come all the way from Dijing — is holding a meet-and-greet. Will you be attending?"
In his mind, since Ye Fusheng had earned a place of honor at Huangfu Hai's table, he had to be someone of great standing — someone who might even know Gu Ziqi. If Ye Fusheng could put in a few good words on his behalf, his future would be nothing short of brilliant.
She's here?
Ye Fusheng was momentarily taken aback—they had come faster than expected. He smiled and said, "Of course I'll go. In fact, I wouldn't miss it for the world!"
Director Wang's heart surged with excitement—judging by his attitude, he clearly recognized him after all!
But there was much that couldn't be said aloud just yet—too eager, too calculated. Better to wait until tonight, until she spotted him with Gu Ziqi, then walk over and say hello. Everything would fall into place on its own.
Rising, she said, "Mr. Ye, I won't keep you any longer. See you tonight."
He paused, then added: "Please rest assured — I will look after the He family's business to the greatest extent possible, and will ask my friends to do the same. This humble one shall take his leave now!"
"I'll walk you out."
He Yuting hastily chimed in, her heart brimming with delight—the more contracts, the more secure her footing.
After seeing Mr. Wang out, she walked back and suddenly found that Ye Fusheng wasn't quite so irritating after all — he was actually rather handsome. She sat down across from him and smiled: "Didn't see that coming — you put on quite a convincing act!"
Ye Fusheng took a sip of tea, looking puzzled. "What exactly was I pretending?"
He Yuting curled her lips: "Going to Miss Gu's banquet, apparently — saying 'of course I'm going, I absolutely must go.' A banquet of that caliber, I don't even have the standing to attend, let alone you!"
"You are not yet Huangfu Hai's son-in-law, and even if you were, you would only be a live-in son-in-law — there is no way they would take you with them!"
In her eyes, everything about Ye Fusheng was a facade—including the imposing air he projected now. As for President Wang not spotting Ye Fusheng at the evening event, that hardly mattered. The entire gathering would draw prominent figures from Jinhai and even from the provincial capital; going unnoticed was perfectly ordinary.
Ye Fusheng was momentarily speechless. This woman always thought she knew best!
He set down his teacup and rose to his feet. "Done with what I came to help with — time to go!"
He Yuting rolled her eyes, a sour feeling welling up inside. "Sure, go ahead—you still have to rush back and be Huangfu Qing's lapdog."
"But let me warn you — everyone in Jinhai knows Huangfu Qing is cold and aloof. No man has ever been able to win her over."
"You might just be her shield — someone she keeps around to fend off other suitors while leaving herself a way out. Save more money and watch your back, or one day she'll kick you to the curb and you won't even have enough for a meal."
She can't even stand him herself, let alone Huangfu Qing — sooner or later she'll kick him to the curb!
Ye Fusheng was utterly speechless and walked away briskly.
Just stepped out of the room.
A group of people came walking toward them.
Both sides froze on the spot at the sight, for the one leading the group was none other than Xiao Tianci!
Standing nearby was a bald man, with a group of burly men at his back!
"Ye Fusheng!" Xiao Tianci let out a yelp.
What a small world — they were here to discuss how to get revenge on Ye Fusheng!
"Quiet down. Make another sound and I'll slap you again." Ye Fusheng tossed the words out without a second glance and strolled out of the teahouse.
"You…" Xiao Tianci clenched both fists, shot a glance at the bald man beside him, and turned to walk out as well—but his peripheral vision suddenly caught sight of a girl still inside the private room.
His eyes lit up. He walked over and said with refined courtesy, "Hello there, beautiful. Are you a friend of Ye Fusheng's? My name is Xiao Tianyou — Xiao Rulong, Chairman of the Rulong Group, is my father. I wonder if I might have the pleasure of getting to know you."
Revealing one's identity—a trick that never failed.
He Yuting was stunned for two seconds, then quickly composed herself, her voice brimming with excitement: "Young Master Xiao, what a pleasure to meet you. I've long admired your name — I am He Yuting, President of the He Group. It's truly an honor."
On the road.
"Halt!"
The bald man at the head of the group shouted.
The other burly men quickly closed in, surrounding Ye Fusheng on all sides.
Ye Fusheng stopped in his tracks, his tone calm: "You want to stand up for that fool?"
"Kneel when you speak to me!"
The bald-headed leader puffed out his chest, his face full of contempt.
Crack!
Ye Fusheng didn't hesitate for a single moment—he sent the man flying with one slap. With street trash like this, even opening his mouth would be a waste of breath.
"How dare you hit me?"
The bald man, beaten half-senseless, raised his hand and barked, "Get him!"
At the command, the burly men surrounding him hesitated no longer. They moved as one, raising their weapons and striking at Ye Fusheng simultaneously—every blow aimed straight for a vital point.
The passersby were so startled they scrambled back one after another, terrified of being caught in the crossfire!
Bang. Bang. Bang.
A mere three seconds.
All of these burly men collapsed to the ground, howling in agony.
This sight left everyone dumbstruck.
Ye Fusheng walked toward the bald man at the front, smiling as he went: "Still sticking your head out?"
The bald man went pale with fright, cursing Xu Baoshi in his heart — just what kind of person had this bastard gone and offended?
A cold voice rang out: "Stop right there. Do you have any idea who I am? I am a hall master under Dragon King Xu — Baldy Liu!"
Smack!
Ye Fusheng sent him flying with another slap, and said calmly, "Go back and ask Xu Sandao if he knows who I am!"
Having said that, he left for good.
He hadn't noticed that He Yuting was standing frozen in the teahouse doorway, her face drained of all color.
"What's wrong?"
Xiao Tianci strutted out from inside, riding high on his good fortune—he had just gotten He Yuting's contact information, and now fate had handed him a gift: Ye Fusheng's sorry state, right there for her to see. He could even play the gallant hero rushing to a beauty's rescue.
But when he saw the scene outside the door, he froze on the spot!
Baldy Liu got beaten up by Ye Fusheng?
He Yuting shuddered, on the verge of dying from sheer fury. A lunatic — he was nothing but a lunatic!
How dare you lay hands on Dragon King Xu's men — and have the nerve to clamor against Dragon King Xu himself?
Does he even know what kind of existence Dragon King Xu is in Tianhai!
Turning around, she said meekly, "X-Xiao… Young Master Xiao, Ye Fusheng hit Baldy Liu — can you help him?"
Xiao Tianci struggled to collect himself, cleared his throat, and said with perfect solemnity: "No problem, I'll go find Dragon King Xu right away!"
Terrified that Ye Fusheng would return for revenge, he fled without delay.
He settled into the car, a sly smile creeping across his face as he muttered to himself: "I'm not going to find Xu the Dragon King — I'm going back to the banquet to chase after Miss Gu!"
"Stupid dog, how dare you bark at Xu Dragon King—just wait to die!"
"What do you know — three joys at the door all at once, heh."
……
Cloud Top Heavenly Palace.
Ye Fusheng had not intended to return, but having promised to accompany her to the banquet, he had no choice but to come back.
Had just pushed the door open and stepped inside.
He froze on the spot. There in the living room, Gu Ziqi was actually changing clothes — her lower half clad in a form-hugging pencil skirt, nothing but that short skirt, her long legs fully exposed, while her upper body……
Gu Ziqi was also surprised to see him walk in.
But she quickly adapted, raising one hand to shield herself, and said with a smile: "Little brother, you've come back at just the right time—help me choose: which one looks better?"
She picked up a few pieces of undergarments, holding them up against herself again and again.
Ye Fusheng had never witnessed such a scene before — he felt a sudden rush of heat flood his nose and quickly turned away.
Gu Ziqi said plaintively: "Still shy? It's not like you haven't seen before. Hurry up, help me pick one—don't make things difficult for your sister."
Ding Chuang cursed the so-called Working Emperor Cai Chongyang in his heart again — the man kept a canary at home, and still managed to land himself in prison!
He said in a low voice, "Stop it. You are my… sister-in-law!"
In Zhenglong Prison, he was the youngest — calling her "sister-in-law" was hardly out of place.
Gu Ziqi froze for a moment, then said in a plaintive tone, "So you don't want to eat dumplings?"
